What our clients say

Starting couple therapy with Teresa has been one of the best decisions for us. Therapy helped me calm down, reflect on my own patterns, and recognize how both of us were struggling and growing together. It truly brought more clarity, understanding, and peace into our relationship.

I had tried several therapy sessions in the past without seeing any noticeable changes in my thought patterns. Then, I decided to give Ello Mind a try. My therapist, Teresa, is very friendly, and I was able to connect with her perspective right away. She has already helped me make a positive change during one of the lowest points in my life.

Ello Mind is a really good centre for mental health and wellness. From the very first session, they created a safe and supportive space where I felt comfortable opening up. I highly recommend Ello Mind and Ms Teresa to anyone looking for compassionate, professional, and effective therapy.

I had a great experience with Ellomind. I worked with Teresa and she is a wonderful therapist. Helped me get my thoughts sorted and gave some effective exercises that helped me on my mental wellness journey. I am giving this feedback a few months after my sessions ended and still feel great. The effects of the therapy are long lasting.

Teresa was able to correctly identify that I had issues with confidence and assertiveness using the right questions and exercises. She then taught me CBT frameworks and techniques that helped me improve my self-image. Teresa is very open to receiving feedback and integrating it into subsequent sessions.

I’ve been taking sessions at Ello Mind since 2023, and Teresa has helped me overcome many things. She doesn’t just give advice — she helps you understand yourself better. She listens patiently and really tries to understand what you’re going through. I genuinely appreciate her work and highly recommend Ello Mind.

What online marriage counselling involves

Online marriage counselling is a series of 50-minute video sessions in which a psychologist helps a married couple understand what keeps going wrong between them and practise a different way of handling it. The first session is mostly listening: how you met, what life looks like now, what each of you wants to change, and who else is part of the picture, such as parents, children or a job abroad.

From there you agree on what to focus on first. Later sessions mix honest conversation with practical skills: how to raise a hard topic without it becoming a fight, how to repair after one, and how to make decisions as a team when two families have opinions. The same approaches sit behind our couples therapy, adapted here for the particular pressures of marriage. If communication is the main problem, our guide to communication in a relationship is a useful place to start reading.

Here is what a practical skill looks like. Say every visit from his mother ends in a fight that night. In a session you would slow that fight down: what each of you was feeling before she arrived, the moment it turned, and what each of you heard the other say. Then you practise a repair for next time, such as one of you saying “I got defensive about my mother, can we start that again?” within the hour instead of three days later, and agreeing before the next visit which decisions are yours as a couple.

Signs it is time for marriage counselling

There is no rule about when to start, and you do not have to wait for a crisis. These are the patterns that most often tell a couple it is worth talking to someone neutral.

The same argument keeps coming back

Different trigger, same fight, same ending. If you could both recite it word for word, the pattern is running the marriage rather than the two of you.

You talk about logistics and nothing else

Bills, school, who visits whom. Conversations about how either of you actually feels have quietly stopped.

One of you is always the go-between

A spouse stuck between their parents and their partner, agreeing with whoever spoke last, and nobody feeling backed up.

Silence lasts for days after a fight

Nobody repairs, things are left unsaid, and the next fight starts with all of the last one still in it.

Trust has been broken

An affair, hidden money, or a promise that kept being broken, and neither of you knows how to move forward from it.

You have started thinking about leaving

Even if you have not said it aloud. Counselling at this point helps you think it through before a decision is made in anger.

What marriage counselling helps with

Pressures that married couples, including many Malayali couples, bring to sessions

In-laws and joint families

Living with or near parents, decisions that feel made for you, and a spouse caught between their family and you. The work is agreeing, as a couple, where your lines are and how to hold them kindly.

Adjusting after an arranged marriage

Two people who are still getting to know each other, with two families watching. Sessions give you a calm place to learn how the other one thinks before resentment settles in.

Gulf postings and long-distance marriages

One of you abroad, the other at home with the children or the parents. Calls that turn into reports or arguments, and a reunion every year that is harder than expected.

Money

Who earns, who decides, loans, support for parents and siblings, and the quiet scorekeeping that grows when money is never discussed openly.

Intimacy and closeness

Drifting into living like flatmates, mismatched needs, or a subject neither of you knows how to raise. It is discussed with care, at the pace you both set.

After an affair

Whether the affair was found out or confessed, sessions help with the shock, the questions and the slow work of deciding whether trust can be rebuilt.

The same fight, again and again

Arguments that start small and end in silence for days. You learn to see the pattern you are both caught in instead of blaming each other for it.

Thinking about separation

When one or both of you are unsure whether to stay. The psychologist helps you decide with a clear head, and does not push you either way.

Not sure how things stand? The relationship health check takes a few minutes and gives you both something concrete to talk about. If one or both of you are leaning towards separating, our page on divorce counselling explains how that support works.

How online marriage counselling works

From booking to a plan you both agree on

Step 1

Book a couples session

Choose a time online or message us on WhatsApp. If you are in different time zones, pick a slot that works for both of you.

Step 2

We match you with a psychologist

Someone who works with couples and speaks your language, Malayalam, English or both.

Step 3

The first session

Mostly listening. How you met, what life looks like now, what each of you wants to change, and who else is part of the picture.

Step 4

A plan you agree on

You decide together what to work on first and how often to meet. Some sessions may be individual if that helps.

Online marriage counselling across India and the Gulf

Because every session is online, online marriage counselling in India works the same in Kochi, Bengaluru or a small town, and it works when one of you is abroad. Each partner joins the same video call from wherever they are. For Malayali families where a husband or wife works in the Gulf, this is often the only way both of you can sit in the same conversation without waiting for annual leave. Couples living in the Emirates together can also read about therapy for Malayalis in the UAE.

Distance has its own patterns: the partner at home carrying the household and the in-laws alone, the partner abroad feeling like a wallet rather than a spouse, and phone calls that become a list of problems. Naming those patterns together, with someone neutral listening, is often the first relief.

When you book, pick a time that works in both time zones and check it against local time for whichever of you is abroad. If you are in the Gulf and ever feel unsafe or in crisis, contact the local emergency services where you are; the India helplines further down this page are for callers in India.

When your husband or wife will not come

Many people search for a marriage counsellor online because their spouse has said no, or laughed it off, or is too worried about what family will think. You can still begin. In individual therapy you work on your side of the marriage: what you want, what you have been tolerating, and how to raise things differently at home. A relationship is a pattern between two people, so a change in how you respond changes what your spouse is responding to, even if they never join.

If your spouse decides to join later, you can move to joint sessions with the same psychologist or a colleague, whichever both of you are more comfortable with.

Marriage counselling in Malayalam

Saying “I feel alone in this marriage” is hard in any language, and harder in one you learned for work. Marriage counselling in Malayalam lets each of you speak the way you speak at home, and switch to English whenever that is easier. Your psychologist understands Kerala family life, so you spend the session on your marriage instead of explaining why a mother-in-law's visit matters. More on how sessions in your own language work is on our page about online counselling in Malayalam.

When marriage counselling is not the right first step

Joint sessions need two people who are both safe to speak. If your spouse hits you, threatens you, controls your money, phone or movements, or if you are afraid of what happens after you speak honestly, start with support for yourself instead. One of our psychologists can see you on your own, and these lines are open around the clock: Women Helpline on 181 (24/7), Tele-MANAS on 1800-89-14416 (24/7), and, if you are in immediate danger, Emergency Services on 112. These numbers work in India. If you are in the Gulf or anywhere else abroad, contact the local emergency services in that country. More options, including ways to reach out without speaking aloud and lines for some other countries, are on our crisis and support helplines page.

Marriage counselling online: frequently asked questions

Marriage counselling online is talk therapy for a married couple with a psychologist, held over secure video instead of in a clinic. You meet together, and sometimes separately, to work on what is straining the marriage: family pressure, money, distance, intimacy, trust or constant conflict.

The evidence is encouraging. A study of more than 1,100 married clients in couple therapy found that teletherapy was about as effective as meeting in person for improving relationship satisfaction, although the working bond with the therapist built more slowly online. Neither of you has to travel or be seen walking into a clinic, and you can join from two different places. Your psychologist will tell you if they think in-person support elsewhere would suit you better.

They overlap. Couples therapy is for any couple, dating, engaged or married. Marriage counselling is couples work focused on the pressures that come with being married: in-laws and joint families, money, children, distance, and trust. The sessions look similar; this page is for couples who are already married.

There is no fixed number. It depends on how long the problem has been building, what you want to change, and how often you can meet. After the first session your psychologist suggests a plan with you and you review it together as you go. There is no package to commit to, so you can stop or pause whenever you choose.

No. Many couples come to sort out one specific problem, such as a recurring fight about family or money, before it grows. Coming early is usually easier than coming when both of you are exhausted.

Check that the person is a qualified psychologist, ask whether they work with couples regularly, and make sure you can both speak comfortably in the language of the session. In India, clinical psychologists are registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India. Our guide on how to choose a psychologist goes through what to look for.

You book a slot that suits both of you, and each of you joins the same video call from where you are. When you book, check the session time against the local time for whichever of you is abroad, so nobody joins an hour early or late.

Yes. Each of you joins the same video session from wherever you are, whether that is two rooms in one house or Kochi and Dubai. For couples living apart for work, it is often the only practical way to be in the same session.

Yes. You can begin with individual sessions about your marriage. You work on your own side of the pattern, which changes what your spouse is responding to at home. Some reluctant spouses decide to join later once they see it is not about blame, and some do not; the sessions are useful to you either way.

No. The psychologist stays even-handed and works on the pattern between you, not on who is right. Whether you stay married is your decision; the sessions help you make it calmly and with full information.

It can. Sessions give a safe structure for the hurt partner's questions and the other partner's accountability, and help you both decide whether rebuilding trust is possible. Progress is gradual, and your psychologist sets the pace with you.

Yes. In-law and joint-family strain comes up often in the marriage counselling we do with Malayali couples. The focus is on the two of you agreeing how to handle family expectations together, not on blaming either family.

Yes. Sessions are in Malayalam, English or a mix of both, with psychologists who understand Kerala family life. Many couples find the hardest things easier to say in their own language.

Mostly joint, with both of you in the same session. Your psychologist may suggest an individual session for each of you at some point, and some couples combine marriage counselling with individual therapy.

Your sessions are private and confidential. ElloMind does not contact your family, and you join from wherever you have privacy, so nobody needs to know you are attending unless you choose to tell them. The only exceptions are a serious risk to someone's safety or a legal requirement such as a court order, and your psychologist explains this at the start.

When there is violence, threats, or a pattern of fear and control in the marriage. Joint sessions can make that more dangerous. The safer first step is individual support and a safety plan. The helplines on this page are open around the clock in India; if you are in the Gulf or elsewhere abroad, contact the local emergency services where you are.

Marriage counselling is booked as a couples session, priced per couple rather than per person, with the option to pay after a single session. You can see current couples session fees.

For engaged couples, premarital counselling is the better fit. It covers the same ground, such as money, family and conflict, before the wedding rather than after.
